Delgado takes two from Snead State in Wednesday action

Delgado swept Snead State College (Alabama) Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

In game one, Delagdo took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Daniel Lahare reached on an infield error and scored on a double by Matt Rykczewski. The Dolphins added three runs in the second following five singles by Chip Bonura, Blake Way, Brandt Broussard, Daniel Lahare, and JP LaGreco to expand their lead to 4-0.

Snead hit the board in the third, scoring on an outfield error.

In the fourth, Daniel Lahare’s three run home run plated Christian Clayton and Brandt Broussard, who both reached on singles.

Snead State posted a three run, three hit fifth inning but failed to overcome Delgado enroute to the Dolphins’ 7-4 win.

Trevin Stein picked up the win in relief of starter Christian Latino, who pitched 4.1 innings. Kyle Flettrich closed the game.

The Dolphins opened game two with a run in the bottom of the first on JP LaGreco’s sacrifice fly that scored Brandt Broussard, who reached on a walk.

Snead State tied the game in the second on an infield groundout.

In the third, Tony Valdes doubled and scored on a double by Daniel Lahare to give Delgado a one-run lead. Snead answered with a run in the fourth to tie the game 2-2. A solo Snead State homer in the top of the gave Snead a 3-2 lead before a single by Delgado’s Brandt Broussard scored Tony Valdes (who walked) to tie the 3-3 through five complete.

Snead scored two in the sixth before Delgado answered with two in the bottom frame, when Jace Nini’s two-out pinch hit double tied the game 5-5.

The tie carried to the bottom of the ninth when Delgado loaded the bases on a leadoff single by Brandt Broussard, an intentional walk to Daniel Lahare, and JP LaGreco’s walk before Matt Rykaczewski singled to score Broussard for the Dolphins’ 6-5 walk-off victory.

Delgado reliever Kyle Flettrich picked up the win, pitching the final three innings in relief of starter Ryan Brewer (4.0 IP), Blayne Haro (1.2 IP), Chris Turpin, and Seth Dreux.

Delgado and Snead State will meet at 1:00 Thursday in a doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
