Delgado sweeps Faulkner State in Tuesday doubleheader

Delgado swept Faulkner State College Tuesday in a doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Faulkner State scored three runs in the third inning following two singles and two bases-loaded walks. Delgado made its way onto the scoreboard in the fifth when Anthony Valdes reached on a walk and JP LaGreco was hit by a pitch. Both runners scored on bases-loaded walks by Matt Rykaczewski and Blake Freeman to cut the Faulkner lead to a run.

A Faulkner double plated a run in the sixth to give the SunChiefs a two run lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Blake Freeman reached on a walk and advanced on a single by Chip Bonura. Blake Way was hit by a pitch before Tyler Thompson’s double plated Freeman and Bonura to tie the game 4-4. Anthony Valdes reached on a fielder’s choice as Blake Way scored by beating the play at the plate to lead Delgado to the 5-4 walkoff victory.

Kyle Flettrich picked up the win on the mound in relief of starter Tristan Babin and Donovan Goatley.

In Game two, Faulkner State picked up the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning.

The one-run lead carried to the fifth when Delgado plated three runs following three consecutive doubles by Anthony Valdes, Brandt Broussard, and Daniel Lahare. Valdes’ double scored Tyler Thompson, who reached on a walk, Broussard scored Valdes and Lahare scored Broussard enroute to the 3-1 Delgado lead and the Dolphins’ eventual victory.

Ryan Brewer earned the win on the mound with Blayne Haro appearing two innings in relief.

Delgado (23-10) will host Snead State next Wednesday and Thursday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
