Delgado sweeps Coastal Alabama (Faulkner State) in Tuesday doubleheader

Delgado defeated Coastal Alabama (Faulkner State College) in both games of Tuesday’s non-conference doubleheader in Bay Minette, Alabama.

Delgado’s JP LaGreco opened game one with a two run homerun in the first, scoring Daniel Lahare, who reached on a fielder’s choice for an early 2-0 lead. Faulkner answered with a two run inning, scoring on a groundout and single to tie the game.

Christian Clayton and Blake Way opened the Delgado second with back to back doubles, scoring on Anthony Valdes’ groundout and a single by Brandt Broussard to allow Delgado a 4-2 lead.

In the fifth, Coastal reached on a leadoff error, later scoring on a double to tie the game at four. Delgado’s Tony Valdes singled in the sixth, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a groundout to take a 5-4 lead. Coastal answered with a two-run sixth to re-take the lead.

In the seventh, Delgado’s Matt Rykaczewski led off with a single, advanced on a groundout, and scored on Christian Clayton’s double to tie the game. Clayton advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Blake Way to give the Dolphins a 7-6 lead and the eventual win after the Sun Chiefs were retired in order in the seventh.

Trevin Stein picked up the win in relief of starter Adam Nelson.

Delgado opened game two with a run in the first following a single by Tristan Babin, scoring JP LaGreco who singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Coastal Alabama posted its first run in the second following a walk, two consecutive wild pitches, and an error to tie the game.

Brandt Broussard doubled to open the Delgado third, advanced on a groundout, and scored on JP LaGreco’s sacrifice fly. Tristan Babin followed with a homerun to lift Delgado to a 3-1 lead.

Coastal threatened with a run in the fifth before the Dolphins countered with an insurance run in the seventh following a walk by Blake Way and a single by Tony Valdes as Delgado walked away with a 4-2 win and the doubleheader sweep.

Delgado starter Ryan Brewer picked up the win with Christian Latino and Donovan Goatley appearing in relief. Goatley earned the save in the seventh.

Delgado returns to conference play on Saturday, traveling to Baton Rouge for a 3:00 game followed by a 3:00 game Sunday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
