Delgado sweeps Academy (Canada) in Disney doubleheader

Delgado swept Academy Baseball of Canada in a doubleheader Friday in its second day of competition in Disney Baseball’s Spring Training games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World in Florida.

In game one, Delgado’s first run game in the fourth inning when Daniel Lahare tripled to score Blake Freeman, who walked to reach base. Lahare scored a second run on a fielder’s choice for the early 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Christian Clayton led off with a walk and advanced on back to back singles by Anthony Valdes and Brandt Broussard before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Daniel Lahare. In the sixth, Canada scored on a bases-loaded walk and three runs on a triple and single to tie the game 4-4.

The Dolphins answered in the bottom of the sixth when Matt Rykaczewski and scored on an infield single. Blake Way reached on a single and Christian Clayton was hit by a pitch before Anthony Valdes homered to clear the bases enroute to 7-4 victory.

Donovan Goatley picked up the win in relief of starter Ryan Brewer and Beau Balado. Chris Turpin pitched the seventh inning to earn the save.

In game two, Delgado dominated enroute to a 12-0 victory. In the second inning, Tristan Babin tripled and scored on a single by Blake Way to open the Delgado scoring. Brandt Broussard and Daniel Lahare’s back-to-back singles scored Blake Way and Hayden Fuentes, who reached as a hit batsman. Broussard singled in the fifth and scored when Matt Rykaczewski was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

Delgado added five in the sixth following a single by Anthony Valdes, doubles by Matt Rykaczewski and Chip Bonura, and a triple by JP LaGreco. Three more runs were added in the seventh on a RBI groundout by JP LaGreco, scoring Valdes (who walked) and a two run single by Matt Rykaczewski as Delgado walked away with a 12-0 win.

Starter Trevin Stein picked up the win with Brett Haro appearing in relief.

Delgado will close its Disney Spring Training appearance with a Saturday doubleheader against Brookdale.
