Delgado split Friday evening’s doubleheader against Pearl River Community College at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, falling to the Wildcats 6-5 before rebounding for a 5-1 win.
Delgado led 1-0 in the first on Daniel Lahare’s solo homer.
Pearl River took a two run lead on Graham Hackbarth’s double in the third.
Delgado’s Matt Rykaczewski doubled in the bottom frame to regain a 3-2 Dolphin lead. The Wildcats added solo runs in the fourth, fifth, and two in the seventh to expand their lead to 6-3 lead. Delgado’s Chip Bonura led off the Delgado seventh with a home run before Blake Way doubled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Brandt Broussard before Delgado was retired to close Pearl River’s 6-5 win.
Dolphins starter Jace Nini picked up the loss with Brandon Noel (faced one batter) and Donovan Goatley appearing in relief.
The Dolphins opened game two with back-to-back singles by Matt Rykaczeswski and Blake Freeman to give Delgado a 1-0 lead. Pearl River tied the game with Austin Moffet’s triple in the third.
In the fourth, Blake Way led off by reaching on an infield error and scored on a single by Tony Valdes to regain the Dolphin lead. Delgado added two insurance runs in the sixth when Blake Way reached on a walk and Christian Clayton reached on a fielder’s choice before Tony Valdes doubled.
Broussard doubled the following at bat to score Valdes for Delgado’s fifth run of the game en route to their 5-1 win to earn the split. Christian Latino earned the win in relief of starter Ryan Brewer, who pitched two innings.
Delgado travels to Pensacola Saturday for a 2:00 doubleheader against Pensacola State. The Dolphins return home Monday for a 4:00 doubleheader against Copiah-Lincoln.
