Delgado dropped both games of Saturday’s doubleheader at LSU-Eunice, falling to the Bengals 3-1 and 6-2.
In the first game, LSU-Eunice’s Michael Claverie reached as a hit batter in the third before scoring on a double by Micah McHugh for the 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Cameron Horton was hit by pitch and scored on a single by Braden Comeaux.
In the third, McHugh reached as a hit batter and scored on a sacrifice by Brent Hebert for the 3-0 lead. Delgado’s sole run came in the eighth inning following back-to-back doubles by Brandt Broussard and Daniel Lahare before the Bengals closed out their 3-1 victory over Delgado.
Starter Jace Nini suffered his third loss of the season on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings with Trevin Stein and Kyle Flettrich closing the game.
In game two, Eunice hit the board in the second following a two run, two hit inning. The Bengals added a run in the third when Gavin Bourgeois reached on an infield error and scored on a single by Michael Claverie. Bourgeois later reached on a double in the fifth, scoring on a singly for the fourth Bengal run.
Delgado cut the lead in half by scoring two in the sixth on Brandt Broussard’s sacrifice fly, which scored Tyler Thompson (who walked) and JP LaGreco’s RBI single that scored Anthony Valdes, who also reached on a single. The Bengals added two insurance runs in the bottom frame of the sixth before walking away with the 6-2 win and the doubleheader sweep.
Delgado starter Jonah Manuel suffered the loss, pitching five complete innings with Skylar Enlow, Beau Balado, and Eric Haro appearing in relief.
Delgado (20-10) and LSU-Eunice will meet Sunday in the third game of the series.
