HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana second baseman Carson Crites was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, presented by, the conference office announced Monday.

The honor marks three straight weeks a Southeastern player has earned a weekly conference award.

Crites raised his batting average 21 points this past week, going 8-for-16 at the plate with a pair of home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored.

A senior from Amarillo, Texas, Crites hit safely in all four games this past week, producing three multi-hit performances at the plate.

His leadoff home run in the second inning Sunday jump-started Southeastern’s comeback efforts in the series finale at Stephen F. Austin. The blast led to a seven-run inning, staking the Lions to a lead they would never relinquish.

Crites’ resurgence at the plate coincides with a five-game winning streak for the Lions.

He is now tied for second in the Southland in home runs (11) and fifth in RBIs (42). Crites is also seventh in both runs scored (42) and slugging percentage (.599).

Southeastern pitchers Corey Gaconi and Mac Sceroler, and third baseman Taylor Schwaner, were previously named players of the week by the Southland this season.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, but is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
