Cowboys move up in track poll; several individuals ranked in region

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cowboys men’s indoor track and field squad has moved up two spots to No. 9 in this week’s USTFCCCA South Central Region poll.

The ranking is also the second-highest among all Southland Conference schools, second only to Sam Houston State who is ranked eighth.

The Cowgirls are ranked 18th in the poll.

Individually, the Cowboys and Cowgirls have a combined six different athletes in eight different events ranked in the Top 8 in their respective events.

Junior runner Nathan Jones is ranked No. 1 in region in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:21.84 and is eighth in the 3,000-meters at 8:15.72.

Transfer senior runner Christoph Graf is ranked sixth in the 3,000-meters with a time of 8:14.55. He’s also ranked seventh in the mile run with a time of 4:06.21.

Oliver James is the third of three straight Cowboys to rank in the 3,000-meters, holding down the No. 7 spot with a time of 8:15.50.

Senior jumper John Lemke is ranked seventh in the triple jump with a best mark of 50-10.25.

On the women’s side, Nicole Casper is ranked eighth in the pole vault at 13-7.25 while Grace McKenzie is seventh in the pentathlon with 3,653 points.

Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls return to action on Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Samford Invite in the final tune up before the Feb. 22-23 Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
