MONROE, La. – The ULM men’s basketball program was tabbed for an eighth-place finish in the 2016-2017 SBC Preseason Poll, the conference office released Wednesday.

Additionally, senior Nick Coppola was selected to the Preseason All-Conference Third-Team.

The Warhawks are coming off back-to-back 20 wins seasons after winning 20 games last season and advancing to the Sun Belt Championship game for the first time in program history last March. In 2014-2015, the Warhawks won 24 games, the third-most in the program’s history and also the third biggest turnaround in the country from the year before during that season.

Coppola, from Richmond Va., has started every game of his career and played 1,252 minutes last season, the most in the Sun Belt Conference. He played 40 minutes or more 10 times last year, including a career-best 54 minutes vs Canisius last December.

Coppola broke the school record for assists last season as a part of his 180 assists, which ranked third in the SBC. He also finished third in the conference in assist to turnover ratio (2.5) last season. He averaged 10.9 points per game and notched 19 double-figure scoring games last season while setting the aforementioned assist record in just under three years as a Warhawk.

The SBC honors mark the second preseason honors for Coppola after he was named to the College Sports Madness All-SBC Second-Team earlier this month.

Coppola and the rest of the Warhawks open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. when they host Centenary. ULM will also play an exhibition game at home on Monday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. against Louisiana College.
