Chasers one-hit Baby Cakes on Sunday

Papillion, NE – A trio of Omaha Storm Chasers pitchers kept the New Orleans Baby Cakes without a hit until the ninth inning when Ryan Jackson drilled a single into right field. Omaha evened the series by defeating New Orleans 7-0.

Omaha grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning after a pair of walks, a hit and an error. Two batters later Omaha’s Ramon Torres belted a second inning grand slam home run and the Chasers jumped out to a 5-0 advantage.

The Chasers added a two run homer in the fifth inning off the bat of Jorge Bonifacio to extend the lead to 7-0.

Omaha starter Jonathan Dziedzic faced the minimum into the sixth inning and earned his second win of the year. New Orleans starter Justin Nicolino took the defeat allowing seven runs, three earned in four and two third innings pitched.

Whit Merrifield added three hits, and Omaha (5-5) out hit the Cakes 7 to 1 for the game. New Orleans (4-7) had just three base runners.

Bobby Parnell relieved Deziedzic in the seventh inning and retired all four batters he faced. Matt Straham entered the game in the ninth and allowed a hit to the first batter he faced.

GAME NOTES: The last time New Orleans was no-hit in a game was May 7, 2014 against the Iowa Cubs. The Cakes fell to 10-5 all-time on Easter Sunday.
