MONROE, La. – Prior to Wednesday night’s ULM baseball game against Jackson State, the Warhawk athletic department will honor Captain Stewart Cathey, Jr., a native of Monroe and a ULM graduate, as Cathey throws out the first pitch after just returning on Monday from his second deployment to Afghanistan.
Captain Cathey joined the U.S. Army in 2003, and he was commissioned as an officer and Army Engineer in 2006. Since that time, he has served both domestically and abroad, from being mobilized with the Army Corps of Engineers to supporting post-Katrina restoration efforts, just returning on Monday from his second deployment to Afghanistan. Along with his continued service in the military, Captain Cathey is also a local business owner, a community activist serving on many local boards, including the NELA YMCA, and is a diehard Warhawk supporter.
The Warhawks and Jackson State game will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Captain Cathey’s first pitch coming at approximately 5:55 p.m.
