RUSTON – Tournament officials for the 2017 Cancun Challenge announced on Wednesday afternoon the complete schedule and game times with the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball opening up against George Mason on No. 21 at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.

As part of the Riviera Division, the Bulldogs will then take on either Fresno State or Evansville the following day. Both games will be nationally televised by CBS Sports Network.

LA Tech will also have two home games against Southeast Missouri State (Nov. 13) and Montana State (Nov. 18) who are participating in the Mayan Division of the event.

Even though the ‘Dogs and the Patriots of George Mason have never met on the basketball court, there are plenty of story lines between the two programs.

Head coach Eric Konkol was an assistant coach from 2002 through 2005 and 207 through 2011 at George Mason while assistant coach Tony Skinn was a three-year letterwinner for the Patriots, helping guide the team to the Final Four as a senior in 2006.

A potential matchup with Evansville would also be the first meeting in program history while a faceoff versus Fresno State would be the 29th meeting. The two Bulldog squads were bitter rivals while league foes in the Western Athletic Conference from 2001-12.

The home game against SEMO will be the sixth time the two teams square off against one another on the hardwood. The last time was in 2012 when they played in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

LA Tech has faced Montana State three times before with all three meetings coming in the 80s. The lone time the Bobcats came to Ruston was in 1987, exactly 30 years ago.

This is the first time the Bulldogs will take part in the Cancun Challenge which was recently ranked by Sports Illustrated as one of the top five college basketball travel tournaments. This tournament will mark the 10th year of the Men’s Cancun Challenge. All games in Cancun will be played in the converted ballroom of the resort.
