RENO – The struggling New Orleans Baby Cakes opened their series in Reno with a season-high four home runs and snapped a three game losing streak, downing the Aces, 7-4, on Thursday night.
Oswaldo Arcia drilled a first inning solo home run to put Reno in the lead. Arcia leads the Pacific Coast League with 36 RBI.
New Orleans answered in the third inning with a two-run home run from Isaac Galloway. The Cakes added two more runs in the fourth inning with RBI extra base hits from Peter Mooney and Carlos Paulino.
Reno scored a run each in the fourth and fifth innings, and Galloway hammered his second home run of the game.
New Orleans starter Scott Copeland earned the win pitching five and a third innings allowing three runs, two earned on eight hits. Chris O’Grady entered the game in the sixth with runners on second and third and pitched out of trouble.
The Cakes added back to back home runs from Moises Sierra and Matt Juengel in the eighth inning.
New Orleans (12-21) improved to 2-3 on the road-trip, and Reno (20-14) dropped its second consecutive game.
GAME NOTES: The Cakes improved to 6-2 in series openers this season. Miami Marlins promoted New Orleans infielder Steve Lombardozzi and the Cakes added Mike Aviles.
UPCOMING: New Orleans continues an eight game road trip on Friday night at 8:35 central time. Teh Cakes will start RHP Odrisamer Despaigne (0-1, 3.06) against LHP Eric Jokisch (1-0, 7.91) for Reno. Radio: Fox Sports 1280 AM, and the iHeart Radio App.
NEXT HOME GAME – Cakes return home to The Shrine on Airline next Monday, May 15 against the Salt Lake Bees at 7 p.m.
