LAREDO, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns golf team finished in 13th place with a two-round score of 7-over par (583) at the rain-shortened Border Olympics hosted at the par-72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club.
Senior Ragnar Gardarsson carded a season-low round of 68 (-4) in the first round playing 18 holes without a blemish. Gardarsson came two holes away from finishing in the top 10, but double bogies on his final two holes of the tournament dropped him down the leaderboard 23 spots to finish in a tie for 27th at even par (144).
Campbell won the team title with a 36-hole score of 17-under (559). Houston (-12, 564), UTSA (-11, 565), Bowling Green (-5, 571), Little Rock (-3, 573) and McNeese (-3, 573) round out the top 5 teams.
Nebraska’s Mike Colgate was the wire-to-wire individual champ with a score of 9-under (135).
Senior Fernando Cruz Valle and freshman Aron Juliusson each posted a round of 71 (-1) in the final round after getting off to a tough start in the first round. Juliusson finished the event in a tie for 37th at 1-over (145), while Cruz Valle placed in a tie for 57th at 3-over (147).
Thomas Strandemo (+5, 149) and Triston Elston (+6, 150) rounded out the scoring for the Cajuns at the Border Olympics.
Louisiana returns to action on March 20-21 at the Lone Star Invitational hosted at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas.
