NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana cross country standouts Christopher August and Taylor Price are repeat winners of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week awards.

August, a senior from Spring, Texas, and a graduate of Klein Collins High School, has won all three men’s awards this season and eight in the last two seasons. Price, a freshman from Missouri City, Texas, and a graduate of Ridge Point High School, has won twice in as many opportunities this season.

August led the Gold Rush Saturday at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., running 5,000 meters in 17 minutes, 20.49 seconds and placing 37th out of 63 runners. The Gold Rush placed sixth out of nine men’s teams and finished ahead of two NCAA Division I members.

Running the same distance at LSU, Price was 31st out of 68 women in 20:16.27. She led the Gold Nuggets to fifth place in team scoring, and they finished ahead of three NCAA DI schools.

Since the GCAC began its weekly awards in cross country in 2008, XULA men won 45-of-58 times, and the women won 33-of-55 times. The rate of success is higher since the start of the 2014 season: 14-of-16 for the Rush and 11-of-14 for the Nuggets.

XULA’s next competition will be the Watson Ford Invitational Oct. 7 in Clinton, Miss.
