NEW ORLEANS — Bayou Barriere Golf Club in Belle Chasse has been closed down effective today due to a years-long decline in the number of rounds played, announced general manager Corey Arbourgh.
“The West Bank offers golfers many choices of courses, and Bayou Barriere has experienced a steady decline in our numbers for the past several years,” said Arbourgh. “Despite our many efforts to increase play, our numbers finally reached the point that the business was simply no longer sustainable,” Arbourgh said.
The snack bar and pro shop are all closed as well, Arbourgh added.
Plans for future use of the land have not been developed.
Owned and developed by Bayou Barriere Golf Club, Inc., the course opened in 1965. It offered a unique layout of 27 holes, consisting of three nine-hole options for golfers. Depending on which configuration a golfer chose, the course played from 6,212 yards to 6,646 yards.
