Baton Rouge defeated Delgado 4-3 Monday evening in Game 4 of the 2017 Region XXIII Division I Baseball Championship Series at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Baton Rouge scored the game’s first two runs in the first following a single by Aiden Hodges that scored Tyler LaPorte who reached on a single and JT Mauldin, who reached on a double. Delgado’s JP LaGreco cut the lead in half with a solo homeurn in the fourth.

The Bears tacked on a third run in the sixth when JT Mauldin doubled, advanced on a groundout, and scored on a balk. In the seventh, a single by Tyler LaPorte plated Joseph Dominque, who led off the inning with a single.

In the eighth, Delgado’s Brandt Broussard led off by reaching on an infield error and Daniel Lahare reached on a single. Both runs scored with an infield error to cut the Bear lead to a run.

Chip Bonura led off the Delgado ninth with a single but was left stranded as the Delgado rally fell short enroute to Baton Rouge’s 4-3 win.

With Baton Rouge’s win, the Bears move to a two-game lead over Delgado (30-16, 1-3) in the best-of-seven series. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at noon with Game 5 at neutral site Zephyr Field (The Shrine on Airline in Metairie, Louisiana). If necessary, Games 6 & 7 will follow on Sunday at noon.
