Tacoma, WA – Peter Mooney delivered a two out single to right field to score Isaac Galloway in the 10th inning to give the New Orleans Cakes a 1-0 win over the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium.
Chris O’Grady joined the Cakes on Saturday and worked three scoreless innings and earned the win in his first appearance of the season. Drew Steckenrider nailed down his first save of the season with a perfect tenth inning.
The Rainiers (17-11) had many more opportunities then the Cakes. Tacoma hitters worked eight walks and had five hits in the game. Tacoma did not have a hit with a runner in scoring position in eight opportunities and left ten men on base.
The Cakes (11-18) offense was held without a hit until the fifth inning. The Cakes had three hits in the first nine innings but managed three consecutive singles in the tenth inning in the win.
The shutout is the Cakes second of the season and the club improves to 2-2 in extra innings.
GAME NOTES: New Orleans promoted pitcher Odrismaer Despaigne to the Miami Marlins. The Cakes added pitchers Chris O’Grady and Victor Payano.
