RENO – Oswaldo Arcia added two hits and drove home four runs to add to his league leading 40 runs batted in to lead the league’s number one offense the Reno Aces to a 9-4 victory of the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Friday night.
After the Cakes scored first on KC Serna’s single and a RBI base-hit from Junior Arrojo in the third inning, the Aces answered in the bottom of the frame by sending eight batters to the plate and scoring four runs. Jeremy Hazelbaker hammered a two-run home run and then added an RBI double in the fourth inning that give the Aces a 5-2 lead.
Reno scored three runs in the fifth when Arcia drilled a base-clearing double.
Former New Orleans Zephyrs pitcher Eric Jokisch pitched five innings and earned his second win of the season. Cakes starter Odrisamer Despaigne pitched four innings in his return from the Marlins and allowed five runs on 10 hits in the loss.
The Cakes managed nine hits, and Serna led the club with three. Arrojo and Matt Juengel added a pair of hits.
New Orleans (12-22) drops to 2-4 on the road-trip and Reno (21-14)with the win evened the series.
GAME NOTES: Brandon Barnes snapped an eight game hit streak with no hits and a walk in four at bats. The Cakes added Nick Noonan in a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers organization and promoted Mike Aviles to the Marlins. Miami optioned Tomas Telis to the Cakes, he will join the team on Monday.
UPCOMING: The Cakes continue the eight game road trip on Saturday at 8:35 central time. New Orleans will start RHP Stephen Fife (1-2, 4.85) against RHP Frank Duncan (1-4, 7.22) for Reno.
