NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana produced four top-3 performances Friday in the Tulane Early Bird Twilight track and field meet at Tad Gormley Stadium. It was the 2017 outdoor season opener for the Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets.
For the Gold Nuggets, the 400-meter relay team of Janelle Jones, Tramaine Shannon, Clarke Allen and Ry-Anne Riley finished second in 48.70 seconds. Riley ran 300 meters in 40.68 to place third.
The XULA men got a runner-up finish from Aaron Grundy in the high jump (1.75 meters/5 feet, 8 3/4 inches) and a third from Khalil Gallien in the 110 hurdles (15.32).
No one from XULA reached qualifying marks for the NAIA National Championships, although the women’s 400 relay and Gallien were not far from them.
Both XULA teams will compete March 11 in the McNeese Cowboy Relays at Lake Charles, La.
